My Three Favorite Perfumes for Spring
I don’t know about you, but whenever the seasons change I get an urge to try out new accessories and clothes in seasonal colors and patterns to celebrate. It’s like the beginning of a magical new phase with all sorts of new holidays and special occasions. When it comes to Spring, I always look forward to the fresh Spring air just the perfect temperature for taking a walk and the blooming trees and flowers. Growing up in the American Northeast, I also always look forward to seeing the first Robin and the first butterfly.
With Spring in full bloom, I want to share my three favorite Spring perfumes. I’m a girl who loves scents. It’s not an exaggeration to say that I have been known to drop in Saks Fifth Ave just to wander around the perfume and cosmetics floor. If I happen to have a totally fruitless day of shopping at one of the big NYC department stores, getting a perfume sample can make it all seem totally worthwhile. My ideal Spring scent is one that mirrors all the wonderful changes that are going on in nature; the fresh air, the light perfume of flowers, lengthening hours of daylight, the promise of warmer weather. It’s a time to put away heavy, musky, or spicy scents and enjoy clean, youthful, flowery fragrances.
#1. Chanel, Chance Eau Tendre, Eau de Toilette
This was actually my first scent. My now husband gave it to me for our first Valentine’s day. He wasn’t sure what I would like to wear, (and probably didn’t realize that I hadn’t graduated to “grown up” perfumes yet), so he chose something very light in a pink bottle. The perfect recipe for success, right?! Although, most of my other scents are now a little heavier, I still love this gentle eau de toilette. It’s light, floral and airy, with just a hint of fruity notes. If you need a refined, polished, light, feminine scent for work or every day this is just perfect. According to Chanel’s website, in this fragrance “a green and fruity Grapefruit-Quince accord intertwines with the softness of Jasmine and the smoothness of White Musks for an intoxicatingly light, floral trail”. There are four perfumes in the Chance family and this is by far my favorite. All of others are similarly light and delicate though, so if you are looking for a new Spring perfume this is definitely a good line to check out.
#2. Kate Spade Walk on Air, Eau de Parfum
I love Kate Spade’s whimsical, colorful, feminine vibe. It came as a surprise however that the designer, in addition to preppy clothes, fun accessories, and wonderful handbags, also makes perfumes. I randomly discovered Walk on Air when I was walking through Macy’s flagship store in Manhattan. At first, I was drawn to the fragrance because of the brand name. But after giving it a try, I think it’s really worthy of consideration in its own right. It’s another very light perfume; a sweet, light floral, fresh air scent. The Kate Spade website describes Walk on Air as “a light, white floral mix of lily of the valley, magnolia and crinum lily”. It lists the top notes as “linden blossom, maiden’s hair fern, Solomon’s seal, calabrese bergamot, and Tunisian neroli”; the heart notes as, “lily of the valley, magnolia grandiflora, Egyptian jasmine, narcissus and absolute orpur”; and the base notes as, “crinum lily, white iris, and violet leaf absolute orpur”.
#3. Dolce & Gabbana Dolce Floral Drops, Eau de Toilette
I think it was the beautiful green bottle with a white rose cap that drew me to Dolce & Gabbana’s Dolce Floral Drops. This is another, fresh floral eau de toilette, but with a more “green” smell. To me this scent really captures the feeling of spring – green grass and foliage, budding flowers, fresh floral air. Dolce Floral Drops is inspired by the Dolce Eau de Parfum. The bottles for Dolce and Dolce Floral Drops are nearly identical – Dolce is in a green glass and Dolce Floral Drops is in a frosted green glass and says Floral Drops below Dolce. It’s a really unique and beautifully designed bottle and reflects the vibe of the perfumes really well. I love that the sculpted rose is inspired by Sicilian marzipan confectionary. According to the Dolce & Gabbana website, Dolce Floral Drops’ top notes are a “lively and crisp green opening of Neroli leaves and Papaya Flower that enriches the character of the fragrance and defines its freshness right from the start. The heart notes are “a harmonious combination of White Amaryllis, White Daffodil and White Water Lily” and “the floral signature is counterbalanced by a base of warm Musky notes, Cashmeran and Sandalwood”.
